Santa’s CrAzY 2012 fat loss plan
I know it’s Christmas day and you’ve probably got a house full (I do too!) but I HAVE to tell you about this crazy little guy who showed up at my door today. He was short, about 4 feet tall. He also had weird shoes that curled at the toe. And even more weird, he had pointy ears. I asked him who he was and he said he was a messenger from Santa! Apparently, Santa is getting older and slower, and he’s concerned about his weight and safety now. He is worried about having heart problems and doesn’t want to
Why I think about you in the shower
Once in a while… I get stuck for ideas. Considering how many classes and private lessons, seminars and workshops I’m working on can put a serious damper on one’s productivity mojo. So what can you do about this problem. What I do is, I take long hot showers. And I kind of just stand there… and think. What do I think about? YOU, actually. Specifically, what ideas and exercises I can use within class and add to the syllabus to make training more rewarding. Then what happens is that hot water pouring over my head stimulates the “creative” part of
Caution When Stretching
I often write and talk about squeezing in extra training wherever possible. You may have seen my latest clip on youtube martial arts training tips – while washing up This morning I was doing exactly the same except I was wearing a dressing gown instead. I hadn’t noticed Leo my 15 month old son wander underneath my dressing gown while my leg was stretched out along the worktop. I was immediately aware of him when he decided to practice for the church bell ringing group by grabbing what was in easy reach for him. My words of caution – stretch
Am I Paraonid?
Am I paranoid? Over the weekend I had an interesting discussion with some friends. We were talking about self defence, which then lead onto an area that had a mixed reaction from them.. Lindsey (my wife) & I run through procedures in case of certain situations. Someone breaks into our home, we’re approached by a couple of people that make us feel uneasy, road rage etc. Their opinion was a mixture of agreement through to disbelief. Especially when I mentioned things such as a “safe room” in the house, giving me space to hit and move & ramming another car.
Sifu Paul, family & kids from the Kung Fu School hit China
It’s been a manic few days.. traveling to China and whizzing around various parts of Beijing. As a Confucius Institute Classroom and allied with the London Southbank University, they have arranged for us to visit lots of historic places, train and have Kung Fu lessons here in Beijing. During some of this, we will be filmed by the Chinese Education TV for a documentary they’re making about our experiences of training Kung Fu in China with the focus being on the children & Lindsey. Lindsey, our son Leo (9 months old), Dara & Connor (7 years old) their mums (age
The Golden Diet
There’s so much mixed advice regarding diets, what you should and shouldn’t eat, recommended daily allowance yarda yarda. The truth is… there’s no “Golden Diet” that suits everyone perfectly… however there’s some good advice and there’s some bad advice …. unfortunately quite a lot of the general advice is pretty poor. You may experience it yourself… you eat more or less what has been suggested but don’t see or feel the results… This Friday at the Kung Fu Schools HQ in Crawley, I have a Dr from China who will be explaining ancient Chinese methods and ideas for healthy living, in
Ancient Chinese Secrets
Over the last 25 years I’ve tried a ton of different fitness programs, diets (to gain weight in my teens and twenties, 30ish plus to lose it) and one area that I have constantly relied on more than any other is the health, martial and spiritual teachings and practices from Asia, in particular, China. Not to say there isn’t a lot of superb information via other sources, I consider myself very fortunate that during my time training and studying that people who are incredibly knowledgeable and skillful have shared so much with me….. however you have to look carefully for
Monkey Magic
Monkey Magic… nothing to do with that classic TV series Monkey… it’s the feedback that many members of the Kung Fu Schools gave when I sent out the email via Survey Monkey asking you a few questions. I was really pleased and a little surprised (the % of replies is usually very low for surveys) to see how many people had taken the time to complete the survey. The feedback was very useful, Alan, Lindsey & I have spent hours pouring over the information and would like to give a little feedback. The main areas that came out were how
Kung Fu Instructors from China
As part of the Confucius Institute we work closely with a variety of Kung Fu instructors, dancers, linguists, acupuncturists, scholars and other therapists from China. They asked if several of their Wu Shu instructors could be a part of our martial arts school so that they could watch and participate in the classes to better understand how we teach. 3 instructors came, one of whom studies & teaches Hsing-I (I’ll post a clip soon of his short demo). They were really nice guys, easy going and eager to help where ever they could. They were also happy to give short
